If you don’t knit, you probably don’t have a pile of scrap yarn lying around. However, little scraps of yarn can come in handy for certain DIY projects, such as wreaths or banners.
So if your yarn stash does not look like this, you can still find ways to get the yarn you need without buying new.
4 Free or Cheap Yarn Sources
- Check your closet – Do you have an old sweater that you were thinking of taking to Good Will? Consider cutting it and unraveling it to reuse the yarn. You will soon have more yarn than you know what to do with.
- Go to a thrift shop – Often, you can find high quality yarn knit into clothing that no one really wants. Give the yarn a new purpose!
- Go to the hardware store – For some projects you might be able to use twine instead of yarn. You can get very inexpensive spools of it at your local hardware store.
- Find a recycle shop – Most areas have a recycle or an upcycle shop where you can get gently used craft supplies cheap.
